My good neighbour Shane knock on the door this evening a little excited saying there is a red finch on the ground outside his drive way. He said he was able to walk up to it and stroke its chest. Wow! So I went with him to investigate this finch. It was a male Bullfinch feeding along the kerb. I walk up to it and it flew about four feet. There was definitely something wrong. I approached again and it flew another four feet. The third time it did not fly and I could stroke its back. It then flew into a bush hence the few very close shots below. It flew even higher and seem to be OK. I would assume it hit a window and was temporarily stunned. Close encounters you just can't beat them.

Hi Tom, Shane here, fantastic photos i must say, so vivid, almost clearer than my own eyes, a joy to see, and glad to see the bird find its wing & find the sky (away from the cats), what i find really amazing is the tiny tiny eyes of the bird, soooo small, and yet these guys can wildcat acrobat through he skies so faaast, their eyes are even smaller than a mouse, but they work 100% hats off to nature, it was fun to see this guy close up trying to shake seeds out of leaves, even when stunned he was reverting to what his mam taught him, eat eat eat, until he got well enough to fly, such a delicate little thing, makes the macro-micro cosmos all the more beautiful, cos it is :-)
Nice one Shane
